ABOUT
Judgement
Day (JD) is first and foremost an event for like minded people to pit
their talents and abilities against each other playing Warhammer 40k in
a friendly, competitive environment.
Who am I kidding? It's adults playing with very expensive toy soldiers!
JD4 2009, the forth installment is on Saturday August 8th and is a 1x day 40k 5th ed tournament of 5x
games with 750pt armies. Further information
is listed in the various links on the left.
EVOLUTION
JD evolved from Opportunity and Circumstance.
The lack of 'Opportunity' for me to participate in 40k tournaments in
Melbourne (because most of them are 2x day events) brought about by my
current 'Circumstance' as a new parent and all the
responsibilites that parenting brings.
40k gamers in Melbourne are fortunate because we have some awesome 2x day events but few 1x day events.
So I decided to throw caution to the wind, become a Tournament Organiser (TO) and run something I would like to attend.
In it's 4th year JD has continued to evolve, now under the auspicious guidance of WAACY as I take a step back to refresh.
VISION
It
is my vision that JD will become a regular, annual, potentially Iconic,
1x day 40k tournament on the Melbourne gaming calendar.
The format may change as the game and my experience as a TO grows but
changes will only occur for the betterment of the event and the gamers
experience.
4th installment, and we're ringing the changes.
MISSION
I/We
undertake to organise and run this event to the best of our ability, in
a professional manner and will do our utmost to ensure it is successful,
enjoyable and memorable for all concerned, for all the right reasons.
It's all about having fun. After all...it's just a game.
COMMITMENT
Games
Workshop laid down a 'Player's Bill of Rights' for organisers of NTS
Events pre-2005 and we agreed to guarantee certain basic things, which
you could expect to see. While this appears to have moved on I/We still
feel it's a good benchmark and have retained it as a staple of JD.
Basically at JD events players have the right to:
- Have fun and meet
new people. The main purpose of the event is to allow a group of
people who share our hobby to spend some time playing some fun and
interesting games. Playing is its own reward and no unsporting-like
behaviour will be tolerated.
- Play at least three games. If you've worked
hard putting your army together then you need to expect to play more
than a game or two...particularly if you've travelled any distance to
be part of the event.
- Fair adjudication - Players' will have
their questions, interpretations, disputes or disagreements settled by
polite, impartial Judges who have a reasonable working knowledge of the
game system. They are on hand to make correct rules calls to the best
of their ability without favor to friends or local favourites. At the
end of the day Judge's call are final and should be respected. Since
you're there to play for fun, the whole event shouldn't be ruined by a
call that didn't go your way.
- Battle against other painted armies.
Players spend a great deal of time painting and converting their models
to make the army look good. At home, in a club or smaller non-NTS
events the amount of bare metal on the table matters little. But it's
insulting to your opponent if they have gone to some effort to meet the
expectation of the tournament community and the person on the other
side of the table hasn't bothered.
- Have the event organised and run in a
timely manner. Regardless of how far anyone has travelled to a
tournament, everyone appreciates that games are started and played in a
timely manner. Players should be able to get a schedule from the
organiser so they can plan their day.
- Play in a reasonable comfortable and safe
environment. Players need room to manoeuvre, a place to put their gear
and certain other facilites to make the experience complete. A good
venue helps heaps.
